You’d have to spend at least a few weeks in the Auvergne, possibly even longer, to uncover all its secrets and treasures. If you’ve been once, you’re sure to keep coming back! The Auvergne is a large region full of natural surroundings, with diverse and astonishing landscapes, a number of which have the distinction of having once been active volcanoes. Water flows in abundance here, the fauna and flora are remarkable, and the natives of the Auvergne are well aware of the natural heritage they have to hand down.
Just a few kilometres from our hotel in Clermont-Ferrand, a world filled with vitality and biodiversity opens up. To the west, the Chaîne des Puys makes for a wonderful playground, dominated by the Puy de Dôme (listed as a Grand Site de France), which stretches up to an altitude of 1465 m and overlooks a total of 80 ancient volcanoes. You can access the volcano’s summit aboard the Panoramique des Dômes, an electric rack railway that blends into the heart of this protected fragile natural environment.
Nearby is Vulcania, a one-of-a-kind park in Europe themed around volcanoes, natural phenomena and the Earth, combining entertainment and education to help you experience an exceptional adventure. Just a lava flow away from Vulcania, you’ll be able to immerse yourself in the heart of the volcanoes of the Puy de Lemptégy, either on foot or by train.
